N'Wide: Gaughan crew chief suspended for racial slur

Brendan Gaughan's crew chief Bryan Berry has been suspended from NASCAR for using a racial slur against rival Marc Davis, according to NASCAR.com. This came as the culmination of an incident in the pits; Davis is a black teenage driver racing for Braun last week.

Our View: First Gaughan runs into Davis while that driver was pulling behind the wall with a blown engine, then his crew chief verbally assaults him. So much for the good guy image Gaughan was trying to develop.

Incidents like this can set NASCAR back decades.

N'Wide: Davis gets sponsor

Marc Davis has signed a sponsor for the Nationwide Carquest Auto Parts 300, according to SceneDaily.com. That sponsor is The Word Network.

Our View: Davis is attempting to become the first fulltime Black driver in a major NASCAR division since Wendell Scott and he's doing it the same way—as an owner/driver. Fans of dark horses have to think of him as a sentimental favorite.

N'Wide: Lowe's entry list

The entry list for the Carquest Auto Parts 300 has been posted and it features a large field of 52 cars for 43 spots.

Our View: In addition to making it more difficult for the start and park operations, fantasy owners will hopefully get a chance to see Patrick Carpentier, Marc Davis and Peyton Sellers race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will run his own No. 5 and get the chance to extend his top-five streak at this track to three. For a complete list of drivers' finishes, check back on Tuesday.
