F1: Schumacher to sub for Massa

Michael Schumacher will come out of retirement and substitute for the injured Felipe Massa at Valencia, Spain, according to Autosport.com.

Our View Only 24 hours before the announcement, his manager Willi Webber had this to say: "Whoever sits in the car at the next race in Valencia, it will not be Michael Schumacher. I am not 100 per cent sure; I am 200 per cent sure."

Guess you can't trust PR people in any sport.

F1: Hamilton finally wins

After suffering through an abysmal first part of the season, Lewis Hamilton finally earned his first victory of the season in the Hungarian Grand Prix. It was also only his second podium finish of 2009.

Our View This was a bizarre weekend that witnessed serious injury to Felipe Massa in qualification and a broken wheel for pole sitter Fernando Alonso during the race. Incidents like these make the race harder to handicap, but more interesting for fantasy owners.

Massa is listed in stable condition for now; keep sending up prayers for him and his family.

F1: Massa injured in freak accident

Felipe Massa has undergone surgery for injuries sustained in the qualification session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, according to Autosport.com. A spring from Rubens Barrichello's car struck him in the head giving him a concussion and he is currently under observation in intensive care.

Our View Two stories here: Massa is unlikely to compete in the race and Barrichello's owner Ross Brawn is perplexed as to why a component came off his car, which could signal troubles for both teams.

Update: Massa will certainly not race; he is currently listed in serious condition with life-threatening injuries. Our prayers go out to him and his family.

F1: Turkey's last four races

To date, there have been only four Turkish Grand Prixs, as Formula 1 continues to expand into the Middle and Near East and so far, this has been Felipe Massa's personal playground. He's won the last three editions of this race, and if not for a failure to finish in the inaugural race of 2005—he might have been absolutely perfect.

Kimi Raikkonen is the only other winner this track has seen, and of course he took that first event. He hasn't been bad lately either with a second in 2007 and an eighth last year.

F1: Ferrari Spanish GP preview

The season may already have four races under its belt, but the emotional start to the year happens when the series runs its first European race, according to a press release from Ferrari.

Our View: Ferrari will be challenged with a new chassis and aero-package this week and their thoughts about how this will impact Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa can be found in this release.

F1: Massa loves Spain

Felipe Massa told press this week: "in terms of the car, we have made a good improvement since the last race, but you have to remember that the other teams are not sleeping and they have also been working a lot to improve their own position," according to a team press release.

Our View: In six previous starts on the Circuit de Catalunya, Massa has amassed an average finish of 5.3 in six starts. He also has a victory on the Valencia Street Circuit, which makes him a master of Spain.

F1: Raikkonen in new chassis

Kimi Raikkonen will race a lighter Ferrari in the Spanish Grand Prix, according to Formula1.com.

Our View: The lighter car will allow him to make better use of the KERS system. His teammate Felipe Massa has not struggled nearly as much in his heavier version. While Raikkonen hasn't been all that strong this year, he has steadily improved from 15th to sixth in four races.
